Explore a Legendary New York City Landmark at the Millennium Broadway Hotel
(New York, NY - July 2009) The Millennium Broadway Hotel in New York City announces for the first time in over 100 years, New Yorkers and visitors alike can now book a personal guided tour of the celebrated New York City landmark theatre, The Hudson Theatre at the hotel, in Times Square.
Visitors can join the esteemed hotel's Director of Theatre Operations, Bob Burrichter, on a private guided tour of the theatre's rich history and decor. The tour takes visitors on a walk-thru starting with the gold-gilded Queen's boxes, down the foyer lined with original Tiffany ceilings and spectacular chandeliers, to the glamorous stage and 700-seated theatre. The tour will highlight the theatre's famous and rich history touching on the renowned events that it has been home to over the last century, noting past performers and performances.
Granted landmark status by the Landmark Preservation Commission in 1987, the Hudson Theatre continues its rich history as part of the Millennium Broadway Hotel, New York. The Theatre provides an authentic and significant theatre venue for concerts, weddings, parties and has played host to legendary performers throughout the thematic decades.
From the beginning of the century, the Hudson Theatre introduced the world to marvels such as Ethel Barrymore and Louis Armstrong and continued to house greatness in the 1950's, when The Theatre was home to NBC's The Tonight Show with host, Steve Allen. During this time legends such as Bob Hope, Elvis Presley, Ernie Kovacs, Milton Berle, Sammy Davis Jr., Barbara Streisand on the Jack Paar Show and Vincent Price graced the theatre's stage. In more recent years, the theatre has housed premiers such as the HBO series, The Sopranos, along with several tapings by television's Comedy Central and prestigious events like the recent Writers Guild Awards.
Erected in 1903, the theatre still stands with the famous stage and boasts the theatre's original Tiffany mosaic tiles that adorn the foyer and the stage's proscenium arch and balcony facades.
